The Challenge

The Challenge

As in most industrialised countries, the contribution of manufacturing to the South Australian economy has fallen in recent decades from around 17-18% to 11-12% at present. The manufacturing industry continues to employ around 85,000 South Australians and represents a higher proportion of our State's economic activity than anywhere else in Australia.

The objectives of this residency spanned three arenas:

  • Manufacturing policy and strategy
  • Business enterprise innovation
  • Relevant academic research

In order to ensure the growth of the manufacturing industry in South Australia, it is necessary that new messages are created promoting the benefits and opportunities of a dynamic manufacturing industry and raising awareness of these opportunities in a globally competitive manufacturing sector.

This challenge requires the development of experienced and forward thinking champions and ambassadors for a new manufacturing paradigm which will be innovative, dynamic and globally competitive.
